I enjoyed reading this book, although parts of it really did not seem plausible. At the beginning of the book, Victoria is turning 18 and is aging out of a group home where she has been living for a few years. After 30-some placements, she has been labeled "unadoptable" and she is now completely on her own. She has no documented skills and no high school diploma. But - she has an uncanny ability with flowers and understands the "language of flowers" which she learned in the 15 months that she lived in the only home where she was ever happy. As the story unfolds, it is slowly revealed why she left that home and what happened to her after she left. Good story - kept my interest and I learned a little about the meanings of flowers.

It has been so many years since I read The Diary of Anne Frank, that it was hard for me to compare the two books. This is essentially the same story, but told from the perspective of Peter, who with his parents, were hidden with the Franks. I thought the book was rather depressing, but it was a depressing story in a depressing time. Be prepared to shed a few tears over this one.

Mrs. Hasan's Comment:
Tempest is a novel about time travel and good and evil - with a twist. The book is easy, enjoyable reading, but I got confused in a few places with all the going back and forth and the effects of moving through time and space. Does the outcome of the future change if you go back in time and do something differently? Can you prevent the future from happening if you go back? Has returning to the past already changed the future (or the present). Some things were difficult to wrap my mind around, but I'm sure they will be resolved with the sequel. Good book, though, and I highly recommend it!

Just finished Tempest, the third time traveling book we've read this year. I read it a little at a time and stayed confused to the very end. The last 50 pages were good and answered a lot of questions. Did I really need to wade through 280+ pages of confusion for the last 50? It's definitely a book you need to pay attention during the whole reading. The library has the second book in the series already. I cannot decide if I want to continue reading or not...there is so many other books to read.

Enjoyed TEMPEST. If you like time travel you should like this book. It was a little slow getting into the book but then I started really liking it. It’s a little mystery and a little romance and time travel that’s a little different from the normal time travel books. When you finish the book, you will want to read the next book in the series to find out what happens to Jackson and Holly.
