Light Years Comment
I liked the idea of the plot but found the writing stiff. Too much third person - so I didn't really relate to the main character. I also thought all the references to UVA unnecessary - for example I didn't need to know that the playing field was sunken because it was used to make the bricks for the Rotunda. Just not necessary - especially if you're not from VA.

Light Years
This book was ok - I don't know if the kids will enjoy it or not. It was not as easy to read as the others. The topic was also difficult for kids.
Light Years by Tammar Stein
This is our book choice for December 10 at Laura's house. Feel free to make comments now when you've read it.

I just got this blogging thing going. I have no idea what I am doing so we shall see if I get it right. I did not read the book The Glass Castle however I have read the others. I really liked Unwind and Sun and Moon and Fire and Ice. City of Bones was ok - but not my favorite. I will say even this is not a book club book. I just got the new Patterson book Cross Country and it is awesome.

New year of reading!!!
Ok, we're going to try this again!!!! This school year, 2008-09, we have read some great books already. We've read The Glass Castle, City of Bones, Unwind, and Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow. We have liked all of them. Unwind has been the most popular one among the students. I hope we can generate some interest here and the students will start reading this blog. Make a comment so I know you're out there. Any kind of comment about books, reading that you want.
