The Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater

Mrs. Schatz writes:  This story was slow and simple in the beginning. And somewhere along the way I was deeply involved with life on the island, the water horse races, Sean Kendrick, and Puck.  I was ensconced on the island.  It was a lyrical read.  And it's a stand alone--not a trilogy!!!  I highly recommend it.

"She is my mare and my best friend, and I keep waiting for something bad to happen to her, because I love her too much. (Puck thinking about her horse, Dove)

""I will not be your weakness, Sean Kendrick."
Now he looks at me.  he says, very softly, "It's late for that, Puck.""

"You swallow her with your eyes.  I'm surprised there's any of her left for the rest of us to see.""
It's coming to the LHS library soon!
